In 1972, an alien race called the Scrubb appears in the sky and demands that Earth’s greatest champion fight their greatest fighter. If Earth refuses, the Scrubb and their huge armada of spaceships will destroy the planet. Both Superman and Muhammad Ali come forward to be Earth’s champion. In order to decide who will be Earth’s champion, the two plan a boxing match on a planet orbiting a red sun, as to remove Superman’s advantage. To further make the fight even, Ali trains Superman how to be a boxer in his Fortress of Solitude. The two fight and Muhammad Ali is declared the champion, soundly defeating Superman. Ali goes on to fight the Scrubb champion, while Superman fights the invading fleet. The Earth is saved. In a quiet meeting after the fight, Ali reveals that he figured out Superman’s secret identity, but vows to remain silent. The book ends with the two champions embracing and Ali proclaiming, “Superman, WE are the greatest!”
