THE BUCKNER BUILDING IN WHITTIER, ALASKA
This building was opened in the year 1953 with the aim of serving as a secret military base. It was nicknamed the “City Under One Roof” because of its infrastructures and capacity which was believed could house the whole city.
In 1960, the building was deserted by the military due to the closure of Whittier Army Port. To add to the wound, the 1964 Alaska earthquake crumbled parts of the building; it was still intact after this earthquake but when the unfriendly weather of Whittier got hold of the building, it broke the glasses of the windows and also destroyed some other parts of the building.
The house is now in ruins, flooded with water, trees and grasses growing there, and vandals contributed by destroying anything they get hold of.
